1Peter 3:15 tell us, “…in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

How could you explain to someone else what God means to you?

It is a tricky question. So it’s good to have that prepared and ready to share at a moment’s notice.

Here are a couple of ways you could prepare something.

1. WHAT HAS GOD DONE IN YOUR LIFE?

Write down a short description for each of these points:

  1. What was your life like before knowing Jesus?
  2. How did you come to make the decision to invite Jesus into your life?
  3. How did your life change after inviting Jesus into your life?

Then try saying it out loud, as if you were saying it to another person. Maybe it needs a few edits? Go ahead and shorten it a little. Then practice saying it to a friend. Ask for feedback.

Then try to share it in just a few sentences. It could be as short as 15 seconds.

Here’s an example:

“I was an atheist. Then I met a Christian whose life I admired. She provided sufficient evidence for God, so I asked him to come into my life and he changed my life.”

Here’s another example:

“I was brought up in a religious home, but God seemed distant. Then someone shared with me how I could have a personal relationship with God and I was amazed to experience his love on a personal basis.”

2. WHAT DO YOU KNOW TO BE TRUE OF GOD?

Think through times in your life when you learned something very important about God. It might be:

  • when God answered prayer.
  • when God gave you his direction.
  • when God changed something in your life or freed you in some way.
  • when God taught you something in Scripture that is personally important to you.

Write down something you personally know to be true about God, that you have experienced from him. Make note of an example or two.

Practice sharing this with someone briefly. See if you can say it in under 30 seconds.

Now you are prepared with an authentic life message that you can share with others, in a natural, conversational way.
